A Local Holiday Dinner Sends Invites to Local Families Without a Place to Celebrate

In Katonah, volunteers pull together to serve dinner and holiday cheer to local families in need.

While most kids are drafting letters to Santa, Westchester’s Christmas Dinner is sending invites to local families who need a place to celebrate the holidays. Completely funded and staffed by volunteers, the annual dinner, held at St. Mary’s School on December 25, provides food, warm clothes, and gifts to more than 300 individuals, largely from area shelters.

“The Christmas Dinner was founded on the premise that no one should be alone on Christmas,” says event co-coordinator Ben Harvey. Choice volunteer slots (Santa’s elves serving food on the buffet line) are snatched up when registration opens on November 1, but slots for other jobs, like sorting clothes or busing tables, are often still available. You can also donate money, clothes, new toys, and gifts well into December. For more info, visit www.westchesterchristmas.org
