6 Westchester-Based Bands You Should Listen to Right Now

It’s time to freshen up your playlists.

With the summer in full swing, it’s a great time to freshen up your road trip, poolside, and barbecue playlists. Those surf rock bands from California may be fun, but Westchester hosts a thriving music scene, so why not spin someone from your backyard? Here’s five local bands to jam out to, maybe while you drink a local beer!

1. Porches

Creating quite the name for himself in the indie music scene, Porches’ frontman Aaron Maine is from Pleasantville, and it shows in his music. The music video for Country, from the project’s latest album The House could easily pass for a ride through the quieter areas of Westchester. Porches’ House is a synth pop journey of love, acceptance and understanding.

2. The Revivalists

Yes, believe it or not, the guys behind Wish I Knew You have a connection to Westchester. Their lead guitarist, Zack Feinberg hails from Pleasantville, before he moved to New Orleans where the group inevitably formed. Fusing hints of R&B and motown with classic rock, The Revivalists are perfect listening for any summer night.

3. Friends at the Falls

This group of four longtime friends comes together to create charming, honest rock tracks, most recently with their single Stay All Night, along with a music video featuring heart-warming home videos from the members. Based in Mahopac, the music feels familiar, welcoming, like coming back home to your best friends. Friends at the Falls will play at NYC’s Mercury Lounge on August 11th.

4. â€‹Indigo King

Posted by Indigo King on Wednesday, April 20, 2016

Hailing from Ossining, this four piece describes their genre on Facebook as “Space Aquarium.” With a listen to their debut album, Cloud Neon, the pieces come together, as they lead us through a psychedelic experience, enveloping the listener in their brand of lo-fi rock.

5. American Pinup

All from Yonkers with the exception of a White Plains bassist, four piece American Pinup adds a special flair to punk music, with a stellar frontwoman.  The band finished a cross country tour at the end of May, with shows in major cities like Philadelphia, Denver, and Memphis. With Lauren West on vocals and guitar, Tim Robbins on bass, Rob Peralta on guitar and John Casale on drums, the troop is sure to get your bonfire party ready.

6. J.Antonette

We felt you should know about White Plains’ rising star songwriter J.Antonette, a former background singer for Melissa Etheridge and self-described “lyrical gangster,” whose playful-yet-passionate multi-genre sound has made waves from New York to California. Her music has recently headed in the country direction full speed, but elements of pop, rock, and even a touch of indie can be picked up throughout. Her latest single Somewhere In The Middle is a great place to start for a taste of her one-of-a-kind personality.
