5 Worthy Ways to Spend This Weekend Giving Back

Pack your off hours with these fun and charitable acts to help your neighbors and communities.

Westchester is certainly a county that likes to work and play hard. Sometimes, though, we find a way to combine the two in fun, festive events that also end up supporting a worthy cause. To that end, here are five events you can hit up this week in and around our area that will lift your spirits while also uplifting others.

Thursday, May 16

Every yeah, Sugar Hill Farm in Bedford Hills grows fresh fruits and vegetables on their half-acre plot to distribute to local families in need. This Thursday, you can volunteer to be part of Westchester Land Trust’s Sugar Hill Farm Planting Days. This May 16 is the first day where you can help plant the produce that will help feed nearby families, but if they’re all full up when you go to RSVP don’t fret; you’ll have two more opportunities on June 4 and 13!

Friday, May 17

Pop over to Greenwich this Friday night for a ‘90s throwback concert and dinner party at Riverside Yacht Club to benefit Pediatric and Women’s Health at Greenwich Hospital, which provides services to those throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties. Under the Stars will feature a seated dinner, live and silent auctions, and a private concert by legendary boy band 98 Degrees! This is a big-ticket event, with individual seats starting at $1,000 — but hey, when else is seeing Nick Lachey tax deductible?

Saturday, May 18

Saturdays are for runners. At 11 a.m. Ability Beyond of Chappaqua will host as the beneficiary of the seventh annual O’Neill’s Annual 5K Run in Norwalk. The event raises money for local children in memory of Annie Curtin, who sadly passed away before her seventh birthday. Interested participants can register here.

Later, Eastchester becomes the first town in Westchester County to host its Relay for Life event. Survivors and caregivers can enjoy a reception as early as 4:30 p.m., with the relay itself to start at 6 p.m. Teams and corporate partners have already raised close to $60,000 of the group’s $100,000 goal with plenty more to still come on Saturday. Sign up or donate online, or just drop by Lake Isle Country Club to show your support.
