Rising temperatures are always the first indication that Rosé season is upon us and just like the holidays, Rosé season comes but once a year, with selections arriving in the spring and being consumed before the end of the summer. Rosé is a fun and festive category for us at Zachys Wine & Liquor, best enjoyed by the pool or at a BBQ with lots of friends and very little stress!

Over the last five years, American consumers have fallen in love with Rosé. So much so, the French region of Provence has lead the charge by shipping 7 million bottles to the U.S. market each year. The love affair has spread beyond Provence, with quality Rosés being produced in other regions including: Italy, Austria, California, Washington, Oregon, Spain, and Loire.
We are expecting HUGE things from the 2015 vintage here at Zachys. We sold over 18,000 bottles of Rosé last year, and based on our “head start” this year, we anticipate quickly surpassing those numbers!
Why? With Mother Nature’s assistance, this year’s vintage has supreme quality, producing wines with bright acidity and a great balance in fruit In all, we’ve found the 2015 Rosés offer an elegance that wine consumers love.
With so many Rosés on the market, our sales staff is often asked, “How do you choose?” Our response:
1. Host a Rosé Tasting Party: Visit your local merchant and ask for their recommendations for a wine tasting party. We have found it to be very successful at Zachys when people take home an assortment to taste with friends. What a great excuse to get your friends together, taste and choose your personal favorites to sip on during the rest of summer!
2. Narrow it Down by Region: Now that you know 2015 is a great vintage, hone in on the great wine producing regions of the world. Here are some of Zachys’ Staff selections:
Cotes de Provence Rosé Chateau de Pampelonne 2015, $20.00—A pretty salmon color, with delicate flavors of melon, red peach, and berry. Offers light spice and mineral notes on the fresh finish. It’s fresh, crisp, and just the right match for summer salad, goat cheese, pizza, and almost anything off the grill.
Domaine de Chevalier Rosé 2015, $19.99—Bright, radiant and attractive. The nose is very fresh with red berry and a slight spice. With fine flesh and freshness, the wine has an intense sweet and fruity taste and a long, complex finish.
Rose Charles & Charles 2015 (91+ ZBT), $14.99—This is the perfect, easy-drinking, fun value Rosé of summer; American-made and ridiculously priced! It is a fuller-styled Rosé, apparent from its deep watermelon hue. On the palate, there is a red fruit explosion of strawberry, wild cherries, and watermelon.
Il Rose di Casanova La Spinetta 2015, $18.99—This wine sends you to the rolling hills of Toscana looking for a plate of prosciutto and pecorino! It has a pale salmon/pink-orange color, and is extremely well balanced. Expect to find delicate nuances of tart cherries, pomegranate, herbs, minerality, and great Sangiovese acidity that quietly build for a long finish. This is a fuller-styled Rosé that will convert naysayers!
Gobelsburg Rose Schloss Gobelsburg 2015, $16.99—With its salmon/peach hue and delightful nose of flowers and red berry, the honeysuckle blossoms really jump out at you. Fruit and floral aromatics follow through to the palate. There is a very pretty silkiness about this wine, which is perfectly juxtaposed by an underlying zing of citrus. Great balance and a beautiful finish. Highly recommended for summer Rosé drinking!
