By the time you read this column, Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company will still be one of Westchester’s freshest breweries, having just opened at the tail end of January. By May, expect decorated homebrewer-turned-brewery owner Mike Chiltern to have 16 taps ready to pour, as well as locally sourced sausages and sandwiches and tours of the brewing facility. Keep an eye out for these five flagship beers.
Wolf of White Plains: Don’t come here without trying this New England-style double-dry-hopped imperial IPA, the brewery’s flagship (hence the name). Its tropical fruit notes play nicely with its low-key bitterness. It’s smooth, even at 8.8%.
Patagonia: How does a blonde ale compare to on-trend IPAs? Expect to be pleasantly surprised. If you’re not into the hop bombs, give this Pilsner-like, lighter offering a shot. We assure you, you’ll want a second.
Project Mayhem: Another New Englander, with the appearance of Tang and an inviting citrusy nose. What’s cool is it’s made exclusively with New York-grown hops that provide a sharp bite on the back end.
Smooth Moves: Roasty, hints of chocolate, malty, and not overly sweet. This is a true porter that they didn’t overcomplicate.
Into the West: A West Coast IPA on the East Coast? Oh, you betcha. Piney, grapefruity, and bitter with a clean finish, they do it justice. Hopefully it’s a sign of OG IPAs coming back to help balance out the excess of hazy juice bombs.
