What's Up in Westchester's Food World This Month

Most of the 16 tap offerings at the new Wolf & Warrior Brewing Company (195A E Post Rd, White Plains; 914.368.8617) are made in the brewery on the lower level (there is also cider from Mount Vernon’s Diner Brew Co.). Their signature brews include a double-dry-hopped Imperial New England IPA, an Argentinian blonde ale, and a West Coast-style IPA. Small bites (Greek hummus and grilled pita) and sandwiches (lobster roll, Cuban, panini) are on the short menu, along with sausages made with New York State-raised livestock (German bratwurst, Italian sausage, serrano-and-cheddar chorizo). A gourmet-coffee program was in the works as of press time.

Antibiotic- and hormone-free, 48-hour marinated rotisserie chicken is the signature order at the new Purple Corn Peruvian Rotisserie Joint (72 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains; 914.339.0900). Other dishes to try on the well-priced menu (no dish is more than $13) include Peruvian-style seafood rice, spaghetti in pesto sauce; lomo saltado (sautéed sliced beef with onions and tomatoes), and chaufa, or Peruvian fried rice. The restaurant is in the location that formerly held Mix It Up.   

Sapori of White Plains has debuted a second location in Scarsdale called Sapori II (2 Chase Rd; 914.874.5316) in the space that once housed Wuji. The menu offers some broader Mediterranean selections (charred Spanish octopus, Moroccan meatballs) in addition to Italian favorites (house-made pastas, Prime sirloin carpaccio, wild mushroom risotto).

OpaOpa Fresh Greek (116 Pondfield Rd, Bronxville; 914.600.8129) debuted in late December, serving classic Hellenic fare such as souvlaki plates, gyro, roasted lamb, shrimp with orzo, and stuffed peppers and tomatoes. One of the four partners owns Yia Yia’s in Manhattan and Opa Greek Astoria in Queens.

New Rochelle restaurateur Brian MacMenamin is the new executive chef at Growlers Beer Bistro (25 Main St, Tuckahoe; 914.793.0608).

After 40+ years in business, Gordo’s Bar & Restaurant in Hawthorne, most known for its burgers, closed in February. Barbecue specialist Memphis Mae’s BBQ Bistro in Croton-on-Hudson also closed in February after 13 years of slinging wings, fritters, and pulled pork.
