These Food Trucks Are Worth Crossing the Border For

While Westchester’s food-truck scene has definitely been heating up over the past few years, one of the best areas for mobile cuisine is just over the border, in Stamford and Greenwich. Check out these three new trucks worth a trip across county lines.

MOC Eatery

The Gist: This gastropub-style truck (MOC stands for Moo Oink Cluck) is the brainchild of classically trained chef Drew Alden. “The outdoors is part of me,” says Alden. “We draw out inspiration from the traditional American farm and its seasons.” Bonus: The truck is also nut-free.

What to Order: The grass-fed MOC burger, with bacon jam, sharp cheddar, and MOC sauce; the Double Oink, with slow-roasted pork, crispy pork belly, pickled vegetables, and cilantro aioli; and the fried-chicken sandwich, with herb aioli.

Dough Girls

The Gist: Pizza is the star of the show for this Greenwich-based truck. “We make almost everything from scratch, including the dough, which took three years to perfect,” says owner Louise Joseph.

What to Order: The mashed-potato pie with applewood-smoked bacon, provolone, and caramelized onions; the vodka-sauce-laced arugula pie with prosciutto; and wood-fired cinnamon-sugar apple tart with homemade caramel sauce.

Find it: Dough Girls makes frequent appearances at the Old Greenwich and Rowayton Farmers’ Markets and at Greenwich Polo Club.

PitoSofrito

The Gist: “We serve authentic Puerto Rican food, just like Grandma and Mom shared with me growing up,” says owner Robert Pagan.

What to Order: Combo platters with pigeon-pea rice, roast pork shoulder or chicken, fried plantains, and an empanada; sandwiches, too, like the pork pernil or classic Cuban.

Find it: PitoSofrito does frequent lunch duty in Stamford. Follow it on Facebook for the latest schedule.
