These All-Natural Fruit Liqueurs Capture the Sweetness of Home

Heimat is a German word that describes the feeling about where you are from,” according to Heimat New York’s founder, Ute Londrigan. For her, that’s a small village near Düsseldorf, where she observed her grandmother making fruit liqueurs from her own backyard harvest. The local ladies would enjoy these natural liqueurs during their kaffeeklatsches.

Londrigan enjoyed a successful career in marketing and new-product development before her husband’s job landed the family in Larchmont. She debuted Heimat in November.

Working only with whole fruit from local farms at the height of flavor and ripeness, the seasonal, small-batch liqueurs are produced in Mamaroneck. There are five flavors: rhubarb, white peach, raspberry, cranberry, and Bosc pear.

With striking, modern labels, the bottles are made in New York, and each is hand-numbered. There’s a larger size and a charming small size — suitable as a house gift or as a means by which to sample the various flavors.

Not overly sweet and capturing the true essence of each fruit, Heimat’s 100% natural liqueurs can be enjoyed alone, as part of a cocktail, or even over ice cream. The company website has an appealing array of ideas.

Tastings are available by appointment, and Heimat is currently sold at Winetasters of Larchmont. For more, visit www.heimatny.com.
