Giovanni Roselli always wore Nike. Growing up, he marveled as superstars like Michael Jordan and Bo Jackson rocked the freshest Nike gear in those iconic commercials. Today, the boy from West Harrison not only works for the company he always admired, he’s ascended to one of the most prestigious positions in the entire fitness industry: Nike Master Trainer.
Another thing Roselli has in common with Jordan and Jackson is that he, too, has basked in the limelight. A former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star popularly known as Romeo Roselli, he gained fame as one-half of the tag team The Heart Throbs, as part of the WWE’s RAW brand, en route to becoming an NWE Heavyweight Champion in 2006.
Roselli got his fitness start at Equinox in Scarsdale, where then-manager Geralyn Coopersmith was immediately struck by his passion and commitment. Coopersmith knew Roselli’s enthusiastic work ethic was a valuable asset — one that she and Nike could exploit after she became the Swoosh company’s global director of performance and fitness training in 2013. He was a member of the team that helped her redevelop the Nike Training Club (NTC) app, “over-delivering on everything,” says Coopersmith. Now, as a Master Trainer, Roselli informs NTC workouts, leads live NTC events and educates other Nike Trainers.
“My philosophy is to help people become the best version of themselves,” says Roselli, who remains a Tier X Trainer at Equinox in Greenwich and Master Instructor of their training institute. “With Nike, my work will touch people globally, and thinking about that impact is very gratifying.”
