Steven Spielberg Loves White Plains

The planet’s biggest director told Mayor Thomas Roach to never change a thing about the city.

Move over Hollywood – Westchester is the place to be — so says none other than Steven Spielberg! The Oscar-winning director of Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan spent much of this year shooting his latest film at a variety of locations in Westchester. The Post — starring Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep — centers on the Pentagon Papers scandal of the early 1970s.

White Plains mayor Thomas Roach had the pleasure of meeting Spielberg on location. Mayor Roach is happy to report that the acclaimed director “loves White Plains and its resemblance to DC.” Spielberg also reportedly told the mayor: “Don’t change a thing about the city.”

According to Roach and Jill Iannetta, director of special projects, scenes were shot at various locations in the county seat, including the old AT&T building, Church Street, and the library. Other area locations included the Mamaroneck Motel and Purchase College.

Roach emphasized that film business is “booming” in White Plains; a closer look reveals that the movie industry has been good to the county as a whole. A recent statement from the county executive’s office claims that the county received $30 million in revenue from the film-and-TV industry in 2016.

The Post is set to hit theaters December 22.
