Reporting Live From Westchester…

County resident and NBC News anchor Kate Snow gives us the scoop on her local favorites

Apples off the tree. Macouns are the ones I always hunt for—my favorite New York apple.

Books from Arcade Booksellers on Purchase Street in Rye. Patrick Corcoran always helps me pick the perfect read.

Capitol Theater in Port Chester. Wilco, Foreigner, Duran Duran, Cheap Trick… the list of performers goes on and on. What’s not to love about great music in our own backyard?

Dinner at Red Hat on the River in Irvington. Sit out on the terrace.

Eggplant chips at Polpettina in Larchmont. Pair them with the Brussels sprout pizza: Dinner. Done.

Freshchester Pale Ale. One of my favorites at Captain Lawrence in Elmsford. (Plus: Brown Bird Ale, Liquid Gold, and Smoked Porter.)

Girl Scouts. Heart of the Hudson. Have to give them a shout-out; I’m a proud leader of a Cadette troop. A top-notch organization.

Hiking in Westchester and beyond—from Ward Pound Ridge Reservation to Rockefeller State Park to the trails at Audubon Greenwich and the Marshlands in Rye. When we have a little more time, we take our backpacks to the Catskills. (Hickory and Tweed in Armonk is where we go to gear up!)

Ice Skating at Hommocks Ice Rink in Mamaroneck. Good, clean, family fun.

Jackson Pollock at the Neuberger Museum of Art. The first time I took my son Zack there, he came home and started making his own Pollock-inspired works.

Kneaded Bread in Port Chester. Best fresh-baked bread around, and the owners, Jen and Jeff Kohn, are so good to the community.

Long Island Sound kayaking. So gorgeous; you’d never believe you’re just miles from New York City.

Modern Myth comic-book store in Mamaroneck. This one belongs to my daughter Abby; it’s one of her favorite spots to go hunting for superheroes.

NEXT. My husband, Chris Bro, curates the very best new music on his one-hour new-music podcast, NEXT (www.allthingsnext.com).

On the Way Café in Rye. It’s actually kind of out of the way but so worth it! Great breakfast, lovely spot, and owners George and Grace Degenhardt are the friendliest people around.

Pleasantville Music Festival. A great outdoor fest every summer. Fun for the whole family.

Quiet morning rides on Metro-North—the lifeline that gets me to the city every day.

Reclining in the comfy chairs at the New Roc City movie theater, with the huge screen and surround sound. Best way to see a movie.

Small-town parades. Watching little kids marching or riding bikes behind the big firetrucks. It takes me back to my own childhood.

Thrill rides at Rye Playland. (Love the creaky Dragon Coaster.)

Upstate New York. I may live in the 914 now, but I will always be a 518 girl.

Variedad Verde, my new favorite cocktail at bartaco in Port Chester. Go early and linger.

Westchester County Airport in White Plains. I fly out of here whenever possible. So much easier!

X-mas tree cutting. We make it an adventure every December to select and cut our own fresh tree.

Yellow glow of the Great Jack O ’Lantern Blaze every Halloween in Sleepy Hollow.

Zack and Abby. By far, the very best things in Westchester.
