Some notes and notifications from County readers

From NYC, with Love

After being invited to a great dance concert in Mamaroneck, I felt I should express my appreciation as an NYC resident of what’s available in Westchester. What a pleasure!

It was the year-end performance of the Ballet des Amériques held on June 9 at the Emelin Theatre. In the first half of the program, the young pupils of the school performed a lively rendition of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf

The other half of the program was dedicated to the professional dancers of the company performing short works choreographed to music ranging from Bach to Schubert and to composers of our time. But the choreography, all of it created by Ms. Alexis, went far beyond what a layman might expect as the dainty ruffling of tutus when thinking of ballet. It involved the audience in the topic at hand with energy and powerful expression of emotions, and that’s what made it so thrilling.

Wining and Dining

I can’t tell you how great [Wine & Food Weekend] was. Thank you for all you do with keeping this industry alive and well. I certainly will be bringing more of my friends next year. The five-and-a half-hour drive to Westchester was more than worth it.

Kevin Zraly is great! Sometimes I have to sit through lengthy seminars and I can say without a doubt he is a great resource.

Revolutionary War

You can learn a lot about history by reading “Westchester County in the Revolutionary War” [July 2013].  The article is worthy of any high school or college history class covering the Revolutionary War.

Not So Natural Ice Cream

I take issue with your reporting on ice creams [July 2013]. I do not consider and never buy any ice cream with corn syrups, stabilizers, or thickeners.

Hershey’s, Gifford’s Ice Cream, Longford’s Own-Made Ice Cream, and SoCo Creamery all have these listed as ingredients. It would really be nice if in a future article you took the time to identify those that contain these additives and those that do not.
