One of Westchester’s first home-schooling tennis programs, Johnny Gularte Tennis Academy, is now available at Sound Shore Indoor Tennis in Port Chester. An esteemed coach who has trained nationally ranked players, Gularte is hoping to put young tennis hopefuls on the fast track to a college scholarship. The program consists of an 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. session, incorporating fitness training, skill work, specialized drills, one-on-one instruction, and high-performance group play with top-ranked junior players.
“I came up with this idea after years of seeing students struggle trying to find the balance between tennis and school schedules,” says Gularte, “particularly in Westchester areas where players are limited by indoor facilities during wintertime.”
Time is set aside for schoolwork and dinner, from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., and Gularte includes nutritional planning, mental-toughness guidance, and tournament arrangement as part of the personalized, goal-setting process. The price of the program is determined based on an interview with the student-athlete and their parents.
