Alarmed by the epidemic of prescription-drug abuse sweeping across the US, Jeffrey Hermann, founder/CEO of Solo Technology Holdings in Purchase, invented the iKeyp personal safe. It is the first smartphone-enabled safe that sends real-time security alerts to owners if the incorrect code is entered or if the safe is tampered with.

“iKeyp can also improve medication adherence and health outcomes for those taking daily medications by delivering intelligent reminders via text, email, or mobile app, in addition to remote notifications to caregivers or loved ones if a medication dosage has been missed,” says Hermann. Currently, the iKeyp can be ordered online for $149 but is expected to be at major retailers by the summer.
Designed to fit perfectly in a standard home medicine cabinet, the iKeyp can hold eight prescription pill bottles. Also on the way is the iKeyp ES, which will provide additional installation options, and the iKeyp XL, which can accommodate up to 18 pill bottles and be placed in a closet or a large cabinet shelf.
Another key virtue of the iKeyp, in all its incarnations, is that it prevents nosy houseguests from snooping into your business by taking sneak peeks in your personal storage spaces. “It is also great for anyone who has roommates,” adds Hermann, “and perfect for college kids to keep their things private and secure while at school.”
