Over at WM, we like sticks (don’t know why; we just do) — and we hope you do, too. So, in recognition of National Something on a Stick Day, here are some local ways to observe this unsung yet august occasion that are sure to leave you drooling this year and marking your calendar for next year.
1. Sambal Thai & Malay, Irvington
Served on a blazing-hot skewer, kai (or chicken) satay is a fun Thai starter. Like most traditional satay, this juicy, marinated chicken soaks in a peanut sauce. The dish is served with a cucumber-onion relish. The combination of seasonings will leave your mouth watering for more.

2. Little Drunken Chef, Mount Kisco
Here’s a new way to satisfy your dessert craving without stuffing yourself to the point of a button-popping disaster. With a frozen popsicle sangria, you can indulge in a festive glass of either red or white sangria, accompanied by a frozen, floating popsicle. This fruity delight costs a mere $8 and is made with brandy, rum, and fresh fruit.
3. Gyu-Kaku, White Plains
Crispy crackers. Captivating chocolate. Gooey marshmallows… Chain restaurant Gyu-Kaku’s White Plains location offers customers all the succulent simplicity of s’mores — without having to hop on Metro-North to get them. The marshmallows are roasted on a metal-stick-like fork (c’mon, forks can count as sticks!) in front of the customers.
4. The Dessertist, Croton-on-Hudson
Samantha Benjamin, owner of The Dessertist, had been whipping up her magical cake pops for a decadent decade before the treat went mainstream — and now she keeps her shelves steadily stocked. The confection is a concoction of cake, frosting, and filling, rather than just cake, which then gets coated in frosting and toppings. Options span more than 50 fun flavors, ranging from traditional chocolate to Extraordinary French Toast, but we’re especially keen on Munchies —a salty-sweet combo of caramel, potato chips, and pretzels.
5. Cantina Lobos, Pelham
Mexican Street Corn is a delicious ear of sweet yellow corn served with creamy mayonnaise and cotija cheese, topped with just the right amount of paprika. This combination will be enough to wake your taste buds up out of their spiceless slumber. Served on both a wooden stick and an oval platter, this is a gluten-free signature side.

6. Blue Tulip Chocolates, Rye
What do you get when you take a block of chocolate and melt it into milk, water, and coffee? Five decadent words: Hot Chocolate on a Stick! It comes in varying flavors, to meet every chocolate-lover’s desire. Whether it is milk chocolate, dark chocolate, peppermint, or toffee, this is a scrumptious seasonal treat.
