AgeProof: Living Longer Without Running out of Money or Breaking a Hip – my shameless plug for my new book with Michael Roizen, MD, of the Cleveland Clinic.
Blowout at Baci Hair Studio in Briarcliff Manor, preferably by Danielle. At $30, an alliterative bargain.
Chocolate Chalet’s nonpareils. My husband, Eliot, is partial to the dark, but I like the milk. Also in Briarcliff (stop by after you get your hair done).
Drug stores like Value Drugs and Drug Mart, where you can get everything from nice hostess gifts to a conversation with a pharmacist you know.
Ex-presidents (and the other fabulous sightings
you don’t have to go to the city to see).
Five p.m. movie at Jacob Burns Film Center on a rainy Saturday. We’re members because the chairs are comfy, and the $8 ticket can’t be beat.
Grilling on the back deck throughout the year.
Harper’s in Dobbs Ferry. Our favorite for a burger and too many fries.
Idina Menzel, Marc Cohn and Suzanne Vega, The Happy Together Tour, and other great concerts at the Tarrytown Music Hall.
Jake and Julia Chatzky, Westchester-born and bred.
Kaplan-Chatzky anniversary celebrations at Red Hat on the River, where we got married.
Leaves along the Sawmill Parkway in the fall. Stunning.
Mac help at the Genius Bar at The Westchester (where they save my professional life on a regular basis).
Neighbors like mine.
Ossining Family Veterinary Care (because Dr. Paul loves your pup almost as much as you do – and he makes house calls!)
Peony monument at the Rockefeller Preserve, alive and gorgeous for two weeks in late May, early June.
Queenan, Joe. A Tarrytown resident and a must-read in the Saturday Wall Street Journal.
Running five miles on a crisp fall morning at the Rockefeller Preserve (two mentions because I spend a lot of time there).
Shiva Cake, as my friends Mitch and Debbie have dubbed the marble ring from Artuso & Sons Bakery in Thornwood. Perfect for that purpose or any other.
Tuesdays at L’inizio in Ardsley, where the three-course prix fixe is $30 and bottles of wine under $100 are 50% off. Tell Scott and Heather “Hello.”
Underhill Road. A pretty, winding street in the Chilmark section of Ossining (where I imagine Don and Betty Draper lived).
Visitors-welcome policy at the PepsiCo sculpture gardens in Purchase, which recently reopened after a renovation. Works by Calder, Rodin, and many others.
Wonderful organizations like Westchester Economic Development Corp., The Open Door, and The Cottage School, which my friends and I feel good about supporting.
Xit (okay, Exit) 4 Food Hall in Mount Kisco, where everyone can order from a different restaurant and still eat under the same roof.
Yogurt, frozen from Bloomingdale’s, where the original plain is so much better than Pinkberry.
Zee (as in the new Tappan Zee), so beautiful as it rises over the Hudson.
