Not Moving Yet

The Gedney Association Board of Directors has received calls from neighbors about the article on page 62 of the August issue of your magazine [“Parlez-vous Français?”]. The application by FASNY for a special permit to build a regional educational campus of at least four buildings—a massive project in a residential area—is in process. It has not been approved and therefore is not true. Such erroneous information leaves the entire community upset since we are still fighting to preserve our neighborhood as residential. —Midge Sanchez, White Plains

Editor’s response: While reporting on the language programs at the French-American School of New York, reporter Wayne D’Orio was told by Head of School Joël Peinado that the school would be moving to a new location in White Plains in 2015. When we contacted the City of White Plains, they would not comment further on the situation, as it is indeed an ongoing matter.

The Madness Continues!

“Stop the Madness!” by Tom Schreck [September 2013] was such an amusing, true article—Westchester is all mixed up! He forgot that one could have a Scarsdale address and live in New Rochelle, or have a Bronxville address and live in Yonkers. Thank you for giving me a good laugh. —Lorraine G. Danza, Mamaroneck

While reading your article “Stop the Madness!” [September 2013], I looked in vain for Chappaqua. Has it disappeared into a sinkhole? —Judith Weizner, Bronxville

Writer’s response: Chappaqua in a sinkhole? My goodness, no! My story’s emphasis was on the confusing names of the cities, towns, and villages in Westchester. Chappaqua’s moniker is pretty straightforward and therefore it didn’t make the article. It’s a hamlet in the town of New Castle and I didn’t cover any hamlets. And, as far as I know, there are no plans for it to be renamed Chappaqua-on-Hudson, to make it a hamlet, village, town, and city simultaneously or to name it East Chappaqua with no corresponding West Chappaqua. But the day isn’t over yet, either.

Lots of love for Laurie Yarnell’s “The Carly Factor” [September 2013]:

- Partner Content -

George Debney IMO absolutely the best CRS interview yet!! It captures the whole picture, including what Carly now (not then) thinks about what might have happened had she been the winner and rushed into the forefront. Well done, Laurie Yarnell.

Gwan Tio Well-researched and eloquently written article. Thank you Laurie Yarnell for putting Carly’s history in one great article. It goes to show that success didn’t drop in Carly’s lap. Her success was the result of a lot of hard work and dedication by Carly and her family.

We asked your opinion on the best movie sequels. Top answers:

Jeff E Micks What about Batman: The Dark Knight? (Heath Ledger as “Joker.”)

Peter Simon Empire Strikes Back is on another level. Not only do many consider it among the best films ever made, but its fan base is unparalleled in filmmaking.

Amalia Greco Best movie sequel of all time: Godfather 2...not only a great movie, but even better than the first one.
