Grand Central Guide
“The Everything Guide to Grand Central Terminal” (Marisa LaScala, May 2012) was worth the trip. Penn Station today is a shell of its former glory. There is no natural lighting, no decent food court or stores. Contrast that with Grand Central Terminal, with the preservation of its high ceilings, natural light, airy feeling, food court, and great stores. Metro-North commuters have a real terminal. LIRR commuters just have a station.

Diversify Your Sources
What a biased, one-sided article (“We Want Housing Equality…Someday,” May 2012), topped off with choice quotes of Jerry Levy (“Keep minority people locked up” and “No difference between Westchester and the South”). Does your staff really believe this ridiculous man and his merry band of social Robin Hoods? Are Rye or Scarsdale restricted communities with “whites only” signs in their village squares? As fair journalists, can you see the argument from the other side and report it fairly? Can you tell the real story—that economics is what shapes a community?
Wealthy communities have expensive homes, high taxes, and (hopefully) good schools paid for by our hard-earned tax dollars. For many of us, working 60-hour weeks in Manhattan, we don’t appreciate being referred to as “the South in the late fifties and sixties.” This is not an issue of racial equality. It’s an issue of economics and the value of homes. Fairness doesn’t only apply to Levy’s clients. It applies to us too.
Our homes are our nest eggs. We’ve worked hard to pay for them. That’s our choice. We don’t need social engineers to “redistribute” our property values in the name of Levy’s version of diversity. My street is probably more diverse than his.
