10 Things You Must Eat

We were eager to try some of  “The 10 Things You Must Eat This Summer” (June 2012). Imagine our surprise when we went to Café of Love only to find out that the lobster roll was not on the menu. The waitress informed us that it would be available at lunchtime, but not now. Writer Jeanne Muchnick should do a little checking before including unavailable items. If she needs a companion for her food checks, I would be available anytime.

Writer Jeanne Muchnick responds: Café of Love is a seasonal restaurant and the summer menu debuts around June 26th. And, of course, summer begins June 21.

Eagle Flying to Yonkers?

That was a wonderful article Marisa LaScala wrote on Grand Central Terminal (May). On page 78, she refers to “a stately stone eagle.” The eagle is not stone. The eagle, as well as the Bronxville eagle that is over the Lexington Avenue entranceway, is cast iron. In my opinion, the eagle over the entranceway at 42nd Street and Vanderbilt Avenue does not belong there. The eagle detracts from the landmark appearance of the building; when one walks east on 42nd Street and approaches Grand Central Terminal, the first thing that comes into view is that eagle. That is not the view that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis enjoyed when she fought so hard to have Grand Central Terminal preserved. I would like to see the eagle removed and brought to Yonkers. It would look magnificent up the hill from the front of the Yonkers railroad station.

I made an attempt to help get the eagle to Yonkers in 2003, but that fell through. See images that I posted on my webshots.com page: outdoors.webshots.com/album/ 77477712KcctTX.

I think that Westchester Magazine might be able to blaze the way for the relocation of the 42nd Street/Vanderbilt Avenue eagle.
