52 Reasons

I have read “52 Reasons to Love Westchester” and it appears to be written by a person who just discovered Westchester. Westchester has become more urban, more noisy, more crowded in the past 20 years. You may view the high buildings as an asset but most natives see them as a liability.

Better Westchesterite

I commend you on Nancy Claus’s wonderful article on How to Be a Better Westchesterite but was disappointed that the piece did not include Friends of Karen. We were founded 31 years ago by an amazing Westchesterite, Sheila Petersen, who wanted to help her neighbors bring their terminally ill daughter Karen home to live her last days surrounded by family and friends. Sheila succeeded beyond her wildest dreams and left a legacy carried on by Westchester citizens to this day. From one child, Friends of Karen now supports more than 500 critically ill children and their families every year, including many in Westchester County. Our core support comes from caring Westchester citizens, young and old. You are right—it feels good to help those in need, not just during the holiday season but all year long.

I was just reading How to Be a Better Westchesterite and was disappointed that you left out of the category “Rescue an Animal” a wonderful organization. Adopt-A-Dog, Inc. has a shelter in Armonk. We are always looking for people to foster a pet or volunteer at the shelter.

Sexually Correct

Boy, I just finished reading the article on office harassment (“Sexual Hysteria,” November 2009). What a breath of fresh air! Enough already with “sexual correctness.” I wish that people were more sensitive to the horrible issues of war than the occasional office sex conversation.

OOPS: In our December article, “52 Reasons to Love Westchester,” we listed the wrong address and phone number for Il Castello. The correct information is: Il Castello, 576 Mamaroneck Ave, Mamaroneck (914) 777-2200.
