Here's What's New in the World of Westchester Food Culture

Lobster love, plus more of the latest updates from the county food and dining scene.

Two of America’s beloved foods are the focus at The Rex Pizza & Lobster (247 Central Ave, Hartsdale; 914.607.3594;, a counter-service restaurant serving thin-crust personal pies and lobsters trucked in daily (never frozen) and stored in seawater tanks in Long Island City. The signature warm lobster roll is a standout. The ownership group has a sibling restaurant, The Rex Burger & Lobster, in Mineola.

Our House Restaurant Group (Rye House, Port Chester and Manhattan; Village Beer Garden, Port Chester) has opened its fourth restaurant, Station House (3 Broad St, Port Chester; in the village’s 1890 train station. The menu highlight is the coal-fired pizza, including chicken pesto, clam and bacon, Cajun shrimp, and Sweet & Spicy (fried onion, cherry peppers, Fontina, provolone, and honey). Behind the bar there’s a rotating international beer selection, seasonal creative cocktails, brown spirits, and interesting wines-by-the-glass.

Joe D’Angelo, owner/chef of Hartsdale’s Copper Kettle Café has opened his second restaurant, the 96-seat Copper House (11 Taylor Sq, West Harrison;, in the space that once housed Trevi Ristorante. On offer is an Italian-inflected comfort American-fare menu, barrel-aged cocktails, plus a front market with house-made sauces, breads, and desserts, including gelato. D’Angelo is partner at Copper House with longtime friends (and CIA grads) Joe Engongoro (ex-Trevi owner) and Alex Avellino.

Gyro and souvlaki authority Tzatziki Greek Grill, in New Rochelle and New Paltz, has opened a third location in Pleasantville (39 Wheeler Ave; 914.769.6575; in the space that once housed Magic Wok.

The folks behind longstanding Indian restaurant Tandoori Taste of India in Port Chester recently launched 60-seat Indi-Q Indian Bistro & BBQ (61 Old Rte 22, Armonk; 914.273.5931; India Café & Grill was formerly in the location.

The Barley House (Thornwood) and Barley on Hudson (Tarrytown) will expand to the Sound Shore with the late-summer opening of Barley on the Beach (94 Dearborn Ave, Rye). The location overlooks Oakland Beach and was previously occupied by Ocean Grille.

La Bocca Ristorante (8 Church St, White Plains; 914.948.3281;
) was honored in May by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce with the Italian Hospitality quality seal (the only Italian Westchester restaurant to have it). The criteria for the award include use of authentic ingredients (e.g., 100% Italian olive oil), having an almost exclusively Italian wine list, top-level service, and a passion for the Italian language.
