The new Port Chester location of Bona Bona (10 Westchester Ave) is every ice cream lover’s dream — complete with a milkshake bar and sprinkle room (sprinkles fall from the ceiling on command!). The ice cream brand from the former Madison Kitchen chef and Chopped champion Nick Di Bona has garnered a cultlike following for imaginative flavors, including Nutella s’mores, rainbow cookie, Holy Cannoli, and backyard mint chip, all topped with a signature swirl of torched Italian meringue.
Di Bona, a Port Chester resident, opened the brick-and-mortar store in December, after the brand’s success as a food truck. “I chose Port Chester because it’s the most unique part of Westchester. It’s so diverse, yet all the people and businesses mesh really well together.”
The 5,000 sq. ft. spot (Di Bona and team churned more than 180 gallons for the grand opening) features ample seating and colorful décor, including murals of the Bona Bona truck and ice-cream-cone lighting fixtures.
But don’t be fooled: This shop is not just for kids. Di Bona plans to have a full liquor license by the end of the month, making Bona Bona the ideal after-dinner spot for boozy shakes, wine, and beer.
