Next time someone says they have no time to take an art class, steer them toward this innovative new vehicle by the folks over at ArtsWestchester. The organization recently launched their ArtsMobile, a Dodge RAM van packed with supplies aimed at bringing free arts programming to individuals of all ages, with support from Con Edison and White Plains Hospital.
Already, the ArtsMobile has been spreading creativity throughout the county, making stops at the White Plains Farmers’ Market, the Ossining Farmers’ Market, Church Street School in White Plains, and even the Pop-Up Cook-Out in Mount Vernon this past July. Plus, the program boasts lauded teaching artists like Vicky Youngman and Barry Mason. Future stops include White Plains Housing Authority sites, local festivals, neighborhood parks, and community events, with a focus on bringing the arts to underserved communities.
Curious minds can stop by the Rye Farmers’ Market on August 4, when an artist will lead a visual-arts workshop, or the New Rochelle Farmers’ Market on August 9, when acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Miguel Cossio leads a workshop of his own.
At these and several future events, those interested in dipping their toes into the arts can do so with some of the county’s most incredibly creative minds, all without stopping by a museum.
