Sculpture in the Garden 2016: Santi Hitorangi and James Tyler

Edward Hopper House
The singular and inspiring sculptures of celebrated artists Santi Hitorangi and James Tyler go on show in the house’s garden. Hitorangi is known for astonishing carved-stone sculptures, while Tyler made his name with colossal heads referencing ancient peoples.

Ray Spillenger: Rediscovery of a Black Mountain Painter

An influential abstract painter and student of Willem de Kooning, Ray Spillenger is often overlooked in roundups of New York School art. This exhibition, which features more than 40 paintings and drawings from the artist’s Black Mountain College days to the late 1960s, sheds new light on this deeply underappreciated genius.
