An App That Makes Volunteering Fun

Volunteer New York’s app makes volunteering exciting for youth and parents alike.

Westchester parents, it’s now easier than ever to help your kids receive the unique gift of giving. Tarrytown-based nonprofit Volunteer New York! has created an app, called the Youth Volunteer Guidebook, that provides information to youth, parents, and school counselors about nonprofit organizations in Westchester, Rockland, and Putnam Counties. The app’s mission is to inform youth about the importance of volunteering while offering key tips about how to get involved.

Targeted at kids ages 13 to 18, and sponsored by Regeneron, MasterCard, and PepsiCo, among others, the app lists not only seasonal volunteer opportunities but also helps kids create their own donation drives for consideration by Volunteer New York!

“With the support of the Carvel Foundation, this app will engage, inspire, and connect with youth where they live — on their phones,” says Volunteer New York! executive director Alisa Kesten. “The app also makes it easier for parents, school counselors, and teachers to begin conversations with youth about how to get started with volunteerism, find local nonprofits to support, complete service requirements and ultimately take service, and their futures, into their own hands.”
