A Mount Vernon Company Makes Pop-Culture Merch for Stores Across the US

Did you know there’s a group of superheroes in Mount Vernon? It’s true. They’re hard to find, because they don’t wear odd costumes, have powers, or fight evildoers. In fact, these superheroes are not even flesh-and-bone.

Pyramid America happens to be a national leader in licensed products, despite the rather nondescript edifice it occupies at 1 Haven Avenue (hey, we can’t all work in the Daily Planet Building). Inside, however, there awaits a cosmic universe of pop culture — everything from DC to Marvel, Star Wars to Star Trek, and The Godfather to Game of  Thrones.

“Of our 40 employees, about half are native to Westchester,” Liguori said, “but we do get employees who commute from as far away as Brooklyn.”

Company founder and president Erol Liguori started the company in 2006 in Yonkers as a pop-culture poster-manufacturing company. But once it became unsustainably expensive, he moved the ops in 2013 to Pyramid’s current 25,000 sq. ft. Mount Vernon facility.

In addition to changing its address, Pyramid also expanded its product line. Now, it also manufactures keychains, journals, mugs, and much more. Yet the posters remain the biggest sellers, and the factory produces more than 1,000 a day to meet demand. All products are manufactured in the Mount Vernon location by a very local staff.

“Of our 40 employees, about half are native to Westchester,” Liguori said, “but we do get employees who commute from as far away as Brooklyn.”

From the public sector, Mayor Richard Thomas is on the record with his approval of the company and what they represent to the city, stating: “I am fully supportive of this company and what they do in Mount Vernon.”

With the large and increasing popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, it is that which accounts for the largest portion of Pyramid America’s revenue.

No need to show up in Mount Vernon with your debit card in hand: Pyramid is strictly a B2B company, but you can find and purchase their products at stores like Game Stop, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Burlington. Of course, you can also find myriad Pyramid merch at comic conventions, including convention monolith Comic Con.
