The Young and the Graceful
Calling all dance lovers. The Palace Stamford is hosting a Young Choreographers Festival this month, giving students a chance to create their own expressive dances and showcase their artistic talent. Fourteen choreographers, between the ages of 13 and 18, will showcase dancers performing their tap, contemporary ballet, jazz, and modern pieces.

Sample beer from Diner Brew Co. and enjoy a few light bites while taking lessons from a teaching artist all in ArtsWestchester’s White Plains space. A warning to all would-be artists: Seating is on a limited first-come, first-served basis.

Power-pop Icons The Smithereens will take the stage alongside Robin Wilson of Gin Blossoms for an evening of music at The Ridgefield Playhouse. Known for hits like “A Girl Like You” and “Blood and Roses,” the Jersey-based band is one of the top pop groups to emerge from the 1980s.

Movie Magic
Kick-start the New Year by reliving the magic of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry during this whimsical evening. The Jacob Burns Film Center’s screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone will be followed by a Reel Talk discussion with the theater’s Kids Film Programmer, Emily Ohara. It all amounts to one magical night of broomsticks, Quidditch, and butter beer.

Toxic Shock
This month, The Pelham Art Center will showcase a fascinating collection of sculptures, paintings, and mixed-media work examining the subjects of toxicity, nature, and the potential for regeneration. HyperAccumulators is a group exhibition inspired by flora and fauna capable of thriving in polluted soils. Heavy in color, materials, and surface texture, the works have been curated by Alexandra Rutsch Brock and Elizabeth Saperstein.

Time to heat up winter in Westchester. Latin-pop sensation and nine-time Austin Music Award winner Gina Chavez is taking the stage for a night of energetic music at The Performing Arts Center in Purchase. Spend the evening experiencing Chavez’s bilingual hits, which blend such disparate genres as bossa nova, reggae, folk, and vintage pop.

Animal Magnetism
Puppets, lights, and color bring The Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favourites to life onstage this month at The Tarrytown Music Hall. Family members of all ages are invited to watch as characters Little Cloud and Mixed-Up Chameleon follow the Very Hungry Caterpillar on an adventure through the zoo and in the process learn the lesson of self-acceptance.
