30 Years Of R & M Woodrow Jewelers

R & M Woodrow Jewelers was born in the spring of 1985 when Robert and Michael Woodrow began their journey in the jewelry business. The duo bought an existing business in Rye that already had gold and sterling silver products; they added lines from companies like Gucci, Tiffany & Co., and Raymond Weil. Now, 30 years later, the store is filled with designer jewelry, watches, and gift lines such as Hermés, Mikimoto, Baccarat, and Lalique.

Here, Robert Woodrow shares what he’s learned throughout three decades in business.

Keep up with change. “When we first started, women’s watches were extremely small, and men’s watches were the size of what women’s watches are now. We listen to what people are looking for and reinvent ourselves when it’s necessary.”

Customers come first. “We’ve always wanted to make the customer happy. So whatever it takes to do that, we’ll do. Our objective is not profits. Our objective is to make people happy.”

The Internet continues to change the game.

“People utilize the Internet to buy and look for items online. When looking online, a customer may buy things other than what’s being sold at our store. With this, the audience shrinks a bit.”
