Best Plumbing Tiles & Stone’s showroom concept gives up-close and personal product experience
When Mel and Adele Weiner decided to launch their plumbing-supply business in 1960, the industry was very trade oriented. Armed with the plans and preferences of homeowners and contractors, plumbers would go to plumbing-supply warehouses to select all items needed for a kitchen or bathroom renovation, from tile and grouting to pipes and valves.
But, the Weiners had a revolutionary idea. They envisioned creating a showroom with the kitchen and bath items displayed the way they’re used in homes and opening the doors directly to homeowners. “It used to be that in the plumbing-supply business, the plumber would chose everything [for the renovation project],” explains Kymberly Weiner, marketing and showroom merchandising manager and granddaughter of the founders of Best Plumbing Tile & Stone. “My grandparents saw it as more decorative and wanted to open the doors to the end users.”
Through the showroom concept, customers were able to explore products first-hand and in vignette settings. Today, going to a showroom to browse through a nearly endless collection of decorative tile, vanities, showers and body sprays, bathtubs, sinks, medicine cabinets, faucets, hardware, and countless accessories—of all types and styles—is the norm.
For example, through Best’s four fully outfitted showrooms in Scarsdale, Somers, Yorktown Heights, and Stamford, Connecticut that showcase top brands like Kohler, among others, homeowners have the best of all worlds—personally experiencing before buying. And, if having so many choices becomes overwhelming, kitchen and bath pros with intimate knowledge of every product are on-hand to help coordinate style, function, and budget.
To make sure homeowners have access to the latest trends, Best keeps the showrooms refreshed with regular updates. As Kymberly Weiner says. “By the end of the spring, we will have replaced 10 of our vignettes. We update these throughout the year and will have even more changes coming in the fall.”
Those updates also include new technology that’s being integrated into even the most traditional products and offering new ways to personalize kitchen and bath spaces. “The last couple of years there have been a lot of new technologies,” notes Weiner, who designs the showroom vignettes. “For example, Kohler has a new technology called ‘VibrAcoustic,’ where hidden speakers emit sound waves in the bathtub to help you relax. There is also a showerhead with a Bluetooth speaker system.”
In fact, Weiner recommends the showroom as an essential first step in planning any renovation. “Kitchen and bath showrooms allow you to see, feel, and experience the precise products you’re considering for the specific space in your home” she says.
It’s a high-touch approach that continues to work for the company and its customers.
