Pet-N-Play Luxury Pet Resort in Newburgh provides a friendly and lavish vacation spot for your furry friend during your next trip upstate.
Founder and veterinarian Dr. Richard Solomons first came up with the idea for Pet-N-Play Resort when he noticed that there was an increased demand for pet daycare and long-term boarding options.
“Dr. Solomons wanted to develop a place where dogs could come and socialize, make friends, have a great time, and spend the day while their parents worked,” says Karen Enamorado, Relationship Manager at Pet-N-Play Luxury Resort.
Pet-N-Play offers a variety of packages from daycare to overnight accommodations, but all packages include two play sessions, four potty breaks, and even a moonlight stroll if they’re staying overnight. Additionally, all overnight packages include an overnight attendant.
“We started doing that because it’s important that somebody is here in case they need a potty break or hugs and kisses,” Enamorado says. “We don’t really know of too many places that do that.”
Pet-N-Play’s five yards are outfitted with canine grass, which is antimicrobial, virtually indestructible – so pets can’t eat it – and sanitized regularly. Pets are divided between the five yards based on their socialization evaluation, which is completed at check-in. The socialization evaluation assesses energy levels, size, and play style.
Additionally, all of Pet-N-Play’s employees are trained through the Dog Gurus, a pet-care advisory company. “We have the Dog Gurus college that’s online, and we have them complete the classes there before they start playing with the dogs,” Enamorado says. “We want them to be familiar with knowing their body language and behavior, so if there’s anything that comes up, they are well prepared for it.”
If you’re dropping your pet off during the summer, they’ll even have the chance to participate in the doggy waterpark. The Waterpark Splash Session is available May through October and features water shoots, spouts, and misters.
“The dogs absolutely love it. They line up like kids!” Enamorado laughs. “The only thing that’s different that you wouldn’t really see in a kid’s waterpark is that each dog stops, plays for a minute, and then drinks the water. It’s so much fun to watch!”
If your dog isn’t particularly fond of water, they can play in one of the four other yards. Another benefit of Pet-N-Play is its partnership with Middlehope Veterinary Hospital, which is adjacent to the resort. The result is a full-service facility that provides daycare, overnight services, haircuts, nail trims, and other medical expertise and services you’d expect from a veterinary hospital.
If you’re hesitant to leave your furry friend at Pet-N-Play, drop them off for a trial day so they can get acquainted with the space and the employees. “It gives them an idea that their parents dropped them off, they had tons of fun and made tons of friends, and then their parents came back, so by the time they come for their trip they’re excited.”
“That’s one of our secrets to having so much success,” Enamorado says. “Because their dogs are so happy, people just come to trust us and they wouldn’t go anywhere else but here.”
