History of The Langham
Originally constructed as the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston in 1922, The Langham’s building has a longstanding history in the city. During renovation, Richmond International, the hotel’s design firm, preserved historic elements like original brass casement windows and the terrazzo floor inside the restaurant, Grana. It also went one step further and added design elements like green glass lamps, banking drawers, and custom carpets inspired by the pattern found on a U.S. dollar bill in ode to the edifice’s banking roots. Inside Grana, there’s even a commissioned sculpture designed to look like the head of a coin.
Luxury at Every Corner
With 312 residential-style guest rooms and 17 spacious suites, The Langham offers a charming Americana experience with luxury amenities galore. For those who desire a room with a view, The Langham offers numerous rooms with panoramas of the Boston skyline and Norman B. Leventhal Park. As far as the in-room temptations go, The Langham delights with spacious bathrooms complete with walk-in showers, not to mention white marble floors and countertops and a color palette that pays homage to the region’s New England aesthetic.
In 2020, The Langham was awarded #4 in Conde Nast Traveler’s 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards: Top 10 Hotels in Boston thanks to its one-of-a-kind experience and genuine service.
Dining at The Langham
For guests who want an unforgettable meal to pair with their overnight, The Langham offers not one, but two new dining concepts. The first is Grana, an Italian-inspired restaurant located in the former Federal Reserve Bank’s grand hall that specializes in an approachable and shareable menu. For drinks and lighter fare, The Fed is a charming destination bar on the lobby level complete with its own outdoor terrace.
Next to Boston’s Best
Just as any stay at The Langham is a covetable experience, so too is any exploration around the hotel. Thanks to its prime location in the city, The Langham is a hop and skip away from all the best that Boston has to offer. History lovers will adore planning escapades to local museums, while foodies will want to make a beeline to the North End for scrumptious Italian cuisine. What’s more, Boston Harbor, the Seaport, Downtown Crossing, and Faneuil Hill are only a short walk from the hotel as well.
For those planning a longer stay, The Langham is close by Boston Commons, Back Bay, SoWa, and even Fenway Park. Upon opening, the Boston hotel will offer guests special access to local attractions like Classic Harbor Line cruises and the Museum of Fine Arts for further explorations in the area.
