COVID-19, a viral infection caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), cannot be accurately diagnosed based on signs and symptoms alone. Testing is typically done on respiratory samples obtained by a nasopharyngeal or nasal swab. We are pleased that our office has recently acquired the Quidel Sofia 2 SARS Antigen FIA* analyzer after they received an emergency use authorization by the FDA. Rapid Viral antigen testing can be performed at the site of patient care, such as a physicians’ office, making it possible to identify an infected patient early in the course of the disease. Results obtained within 10 minutes. Serology tests to determine the presence of antibody, which indicates prior exposure to the virus, are also available in our office.
