Addressing gaps between teeth and more with smile makeover: Advanced Dentistry of Westchester

Q. When I see myself on Zoom, I notice that my teeth have become worn and old-looking. How can I bring back my youthful smile?

A.Zoom get-togethers can make you feel self-conscious about every imperfection. If you are concerned about worn and discolored teeth, gaps, and chipped teeth, a smile makeover not only addresses all of these issues, but can make you look 15 years younger. Using a range of techniques from bleaching to porcelain veneers, we create beautiful and natural-looking smiles. Before any work is done, a photograph is taken and revised to reveal how your new smile will look. Once you love the look of trial veneers, the porcelain veneers are created, and you leave with the smile you’ve always wanted. We also share our approach to esthetics with other dentists through the classes we teach and our articles and chapters on cosmetic dentistry.

Improving orthopedic outcomes: NYU Langone

Q. How is the integration of technology at NYU Langone improving outcomes for patients undergoing orthopedic procedures?

A. NYU Langone integrates advanced technologies—robotic-assisted surgery, in-office nano-scope arthroscopy, augmented reality, and digital care platforms—all to enhance orthopedic outcomes. These innovations can improve surgical precision, reduce complications, and improve outcomes. Collectively, these advancements lead to shorter hospital stays, faster recoveries, and higher patient satisfaction. Importantly, this technology doesn’t replace the patient-doctor relationship—it enhances it, helping us deliver care that is not only safer, but also more precise and effective. – Dr. Eric Grossman and Dr. Erick Kazarian

Q. How has the advancement of robotics enhanced joint replacement surgeries?

A. Advancements in robotics have significantly enhanced joint replacement surgeries. There are several robotic platforms that assist surgeons in preoperative planning and making real-time adjustments, leading to a more customized surgery, better implant alignment, and shorter recovery times. For example, imaging allows me to better understand how the patient’s hip socket sits, allowing me to precisely position the hip replacement socket during the surgery in the hopes of experiencing a more natural outcome. Similar customization exists for total and partial knee replacement as well. – Dr. Eric Grossman

Q. What is ultra minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery, and how does this approach help patients recover faster and with less pain?

A. Ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery is performed through “poke-hole” incisions using a camera and micro instruments. This approach minimizes muscle disruption and as a result, patients often experience less post-operative pain—sometimes avoiding pain medication altogether—and can return home the same day. In some cases, it also allows us to treat problems that once required spinal fusion with less invasive, motion-preserving techniques. – Dr. Erick Kazarian

Promoting healthy grieving: Polchinski Memorials

Q. Being mindful of the circle of life, it seems like it might be less stressful to plan ahead in preserving memories of a loved one. What do you advise?

A. As the crisp fall air settles in and leaves turn vibrant hues, Autumn invites a time for reflection and preparation. At Polchinski Memorials, we understand the importance of cherishing life’s moments while embracing the season’s peaceful transitions. Our memorials not only honor loved ones but also encourage a balanced approach to grieving — finding comfort in nature’s beauty through mindful walks beneath golden canopies or peaceful moments by still waters. As autumn’s coolness encourages us to slow down, we remind you to nurture both body and soul, ensuring lasting resilience and preserving cherished memories with grace and warmth.

Q. What are the best treatments for your skin during the summer?

A. A sunscreen or sunblock with a physical blocker, zinc oxide (ZO), or titanium dioxide is the best for your skin during the summer months and provide protection while reflecting or deflecting UV rays. To prevent hyperpigmentation of the skin during the warmer months, we recommend utilizing Vitamin C, sunblock, and ZO soothing hydro-mist to keep the skin hydrated. To help restore your natural production of collagen, we suggest a Skinade collagen drink, which helps to treat the skin as a whole organ. Skinade specifically targets inflammation, the main cause of skin aging and skin issues.

Staying hydrated during the summer: White Plains Hospital Physician Associates

Q. Why is staying hydrated especially important during the summer?

A. During hot weather, the body loses more water through sweat, increasing the risk of dehydration. Since around 60% of the human body is made up of water, staying hydrated is essential for proper functioning of organs, a healthy immune system, weight management, and joint health. Signs of dehydration can include thirst, fatigue, headaches, dizziness, low energy, reduced urination, or confusion. In more serious cases, symptoms such as a rapid heart rate or persistent fatigue may require medical attention.

Q. What are the best foods and drinks to help you stay hydrated?

A. Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of hydration, especially summer produce like strawberries, cucumbers, and melons, which have high water content. The general recommendation is to consume 2.5 to 3 liters of fluids daily, or about 10 to 12 eight-ounce glasses. At least half of this should be plain water. While sports drinks, sodas, and juices contribute to fluid intake, they often contain high levels of sugar. Alcohol and large amounts of caffeine can actually lead to increased fluid loss and should be consumed in moderation.

Q. How can you prevent dehydration during outdoor activities?

A. Being proactive is key. It’s important to start the day with water and continue hydrating regularly, rather than waiting until you feel thirsty. For those planning to spend time outdoors, monitoring hydration levels beforehand can help prevent issues later in the day. Consistent fluid intake supports overall well-being and helps the body cope with heat and physical activity more effectively.
