Consumers hear lot of news swirling around these days about the health benefits of cannabidiol—better known as CBD, one of the primary chemical compounds derived from marijuana (cannabis), a hemp plant. Although marijuana is still a controlled substance in the United States, the CBD extracted from hemp is legal in all 50 states—and unlike THC, the psychoactive ingredient found in cannabis, CBD will not get you “high.” Thus, there’s a lot of public interest in the ways this substance might benefit our health.
As a disclaimer, the FDA has been slow to approve CBD for the majority of health benefits it can bring—so far, it has only approved one version of CBD oil for treating epilepsy. That said, we see a growing body of convincing research that shows CBD oil may do much more than treat epilepsy. Let’s look at a few examples of these benefits.
Pain Relief
For thousands of years, long before it was labeled a drug, marijuana has been used as a pain-relieving agent. Recent studies have demonstrated that these pain-relieving qualities may actually be attributed to CBD more than to the plant itself. One study, for example, showed promise that CBD oil may be effective in treating treat inflammation and nerve pain. Other human tests of CBD have shown patients experiencing pain relief for chronic conditions like multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
May Improve Heart Health
High blood pressure is one of the key indicators of a person’s risk for heart disease. A number of studies have shown that CBD oil may improve heart health specifically by lowering blood pressure. One study showed lowered blood pressure in test subjects after a single dose of CBD. Another study suggested CBD may even protect the heart from damage.

Anxiety and Depression
While some people have reported anxiety and paranoia as a negative effect of smoking weed in general, other studies suggest that the CBD component of marijuana may actually reduce anxiety and depression. CBD acts upon the part of the brain that releases serotonin, a natural neurotransmitter that can improve mood. A number of studies have connected CBD use with treatment of insomnia and PTSD, as well as reducing depressive tendencies.
Other Potential Benefits
Space doesn’t permit us to elaborate, but additional recent studies have also suggested CBD may be useful in treating a variety of other ailments, including:
Cancer treatment—particularly pain relief and reducing the nausea associated with chemotherapy
Treatment of acne
Neurological treatment (again, the FDA approved CBD for epilepsy)
Treatment of psychotic disorders like schizophrenia
Prevention of diabetes
Quality Matters
While these health benefits all seem promising, it’s important to note that CBD oil is a concentrated, potentially powerful substance that should be used sparingly. Additionally, given the rush to get the product to market, not all sources of CBD should be trusted. Hudson Valley CBD prides itself on sourcing only the highest quality, naturally produced CBD products from trusted sources. They’ve performed rigorous 3rd party testing and their Certificate of Analysis (COA) are available for each product. These tests are done to ensure the products are clean and clear of pesticides, mold, heavy metals and residual solvents so you don’t have to worry about what you’re putting in or on your body.
Hudson Valley’s passion for CBD stems from seeing how CBD positively affected their friends and family around them. Upon launching their product line in 2018, educating consumers around the benefits of CBD, the many ways it can be used and getting a clean product to market have been their top priority.
