[vc_text_separator title=”Partner Content “]

New year, new you! Westchester’s health and beauty experts can help you reach your personal goals for looking and feeling your best. You’ll still be you, only better!

Permanently replacing damaged teeth

Q. Are there better solutions to replacing teeth than dentures?

“Yes. Dentures can make patients feel self-conscious and worried that they may fall out or cause them to avoid certain foods that are difficult to chew. The latest, most advanced dental implant technique is the All-On-4 procedure. Implants are surgically placed into the jaw bone in several strategic places and the prosthesis is made to attach to the dental implants. The result is a set of non-removable teeth that are in no danger of moving or falling out.”

Creating a sensational smile

Q. My smile has become unattractive with age. How can I get the beautiful smile I always had or wanted?

“If you’re concerned about unsightly gaps between your teeth, teeth that are worn down, or the color of your teeth that have darkened with age, a smile makeover not only addresses all of these issues, but can make you look 15 years younger. Using a range of techniques from bleaching to porcelain veneers, we create beautiful and natural-looking smiles. Before any work is done, a photograph is taken and revised to reveal how your new smile will look. Once you love the look of trial veneers, the porcelain veneers are created, and you leave with the smile you’ve always wanted. We also share our approach to esthetics with other dentists through the classes we teach and our articles and chapters on cosmetic dentistry.”

Avoiding holiday weight gain

Q. How do I avoid my usual winter holiday weight gain?

“Here are 10 tips for enjoying the season without packing on pounds:

1. Eat before you party.
2. Bring a healthy dish.
3. Find healthy holiday foods, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
4. Exercise regularly.
5. Wear form-fitting clothes. (Without realizing it you’re more likely to overeat wearing loose clothing.)
6. Use small plates.
7. Practice portion control. Fill half of your plate with vegetables and the other half with proteins and healthy starches.
8. Avoid high caloric drinks.
9. Take a holiday walk after parties or large dinners.
10. Resist constant grazing by socializing away from the central food location.”

Restoring a healthy smile

Q. What can I do about a dark tooth right in the front of my smile?

“A single dark or broken tooth in the front of your smile can often be easily fixed. We first determine whether a root canal on the tooth is needed or if a previous root canal needs re-treatment. Next, with CEREC technology we use an all-digital process to make a crown or a veneer in about an hour and a half. The damaged tooth can be made to look identical to any tooth near it. Colors and other details can be added to the printed tooth and the customized crown is bonded in — all in the same appointment.”

Resetting your body after a workout

Q. “What is recovery and why is it important after your workout?”

“Recovery is of utmost importance after any workout, but is often overlooked. When you take time to recover, you ‘reset’ your body and get it back down to homeostasis. Take the time to stretch and get your muscles back to normal length and avoid injury. If a muscle stays tight due to working out, it is more likely to become aggravated or injured. To perform at an optimal level, the muscle needs to reset to normal length. By recovering, you are preparing for your next workout! While working out is considered to be good stress, too much of it can be detrimental. Meditation, sleep, and deep diaphragmatic breathing are the best stress relievers. Again, you are looking to reset the nervous system and start your preparation for your next workout.”

Treating thinning hair

Q. As a female, what should I do if I notice my hair is thinning?

“It is important to understand that you are not alone. We think of hair loss as a male issue, but females make up 40% of the hair-loss sufferers in the U.S. Make sure you meet with a practitioner that specializes in female hair loss and can diagnose the cause of your loss. There are great medical treatments available, like Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy and Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), but it is imperative to meet with a specialist who can determine which treatments are appropriate for your specific diagnosis.”

Hydrating dry winter skin

Q. What is the best way to care for your skin during the dry winter months?

“Every year, winter takes a toll on our skin. Dry indoor heat, UV rays, and cold air dehydrates, dulls, and irritates our skin. Following these simple steps will keep your skin radiating. Clean your skin daily with a milky creamy cleanser: if your skin is dry and dehydrated. Keep your skin hydrated: use a spritz of toner after your cleanser and throughout the day, if needed. Exfoliate weekly: to remove dead skin cells. Drink more water: drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water daily to rehydrate the body and skin. Apply sunscreen even on cloudy days: to protect against UVA rays. Use a Serum daily to protect skin against the wind and cold. This will act as a barrier and protect the skin to help prevent windburn and slow down aging. A good moisturizer is recommended to heal and soften dry skin for a balanced radiant complexion.”
