Guide to Cosmetic Procedures

Partner Content

Summer is within sight and, hopefully, so is the end of sheltering in place. When businesses and medical practices do start to reopen their doors, many will begin rescheduling elective procedures and once again helping us focus on looking and feeling our best. Westchester’s top health and beauty experts are looking forward to that day and so are we.

Regaining a sensational smile

Q. My smile has become unattractive with age. How can I get the beautiful smile I always had or wanted?
During this COVID 19 pandemic, everyone should be wearing a mask when venturing out, but hopefully, soon we can show our smile in public. When that happens, if you are concerned about unsightly gaps between your teeth, teeth that are worn down, or the color of your teeth that have darkened with age, a smile makeover not only addresses all of these issues, but can make you look 15 years younger. Using a range of techniques from bleaching to porcelain veneers, we create beautiful and natural-looking smiles. Before any work is done, a photograph is taken and revised to reveal how your new smile will look. Once you love the look of trial veneers, the porcelain veneers are created, and you leave with the smile you’ve always wanted. We also share our approach to esthetics with other dentists through the classes we teach and our articles and chapters on cosmetic dentistry.”

Q. How much will my teeth be damaged if I get porcelain veneers?
“Porcelain veneers are thin, high strength ceramic facings that are bonded permanently to the fronts of the teeth. Today’s technology allows dentists to fabricate veneers that are as thin as 3/10s of a millimeter. This allows us to accomplish the desired effects of the veneers (improved color, shape, and position), with little or sometimes no preparation (drilling) done to the teeth.  Today, the emphasis is on leaving as much of the natural tooth under the veneers as possible. Sometimes crooked or crowded teeth can be moved with Invisalign prior to the veneers procedure, in order for the dentist to cut the teeth less for the project. To assure the best results, patients should seek out dentists with extra training in cosmetics, who are most likely to use these more up-to-date techniques. Patients can refer to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry at www.AACD.com to find the most qualified professionals in their area.”

Refresh and renew

Q. How can easy treatments with injectables make you look years younger?
“During this unprecedented time, our first concern is the safety and well-being of our patients and staff. We look forward to seeing everyone again in our office and we are making plans to keep our office safe. Looking to that future, there are many simple and quick procedures with little or no downtime, that make you look brighter and healthier. One example is to combine fillers, such as Voluma, Restylane, Juvederm, and/or Radiesse, with Botox to fill wrinkles and folds while lifting and smoothing the face. We can eliminate dark circles under the eyes, enhance your lips, and soften those hated vertical lip lines. It’s a perfect time to treat your neck area and make a sharper jawline. We offer the latest technology in lasers, skin tightening, and InstaLift sutures. You can have smoother, younger, brighter skin! I will be happy to discuss and customize all procedures to fit your needs. Please visit us at narins.com, follow us @DrNarins on Facebook and DrRhodaNarins on Instagram. Call our office to put your name on our VIP list for your free consult to discuss your special treatment plan. We will call you to schedule your appointment.”

Receiving care during COVID-19

Q. How can I receive care safely during the COVID-19 pandemic?
“Many patients wonder when it is safe to schedule in-office cosmetic treatments like injectables, or surgery like rhinoplasty, facial aging treatments, or breast surgery. We urge you to remember that now is not the time to consider inexperienced cosmetic providers — stick with Board Certified physicians in Plastic Surgery or Dermatology who are trained to keep patients safe and have your health as their foremost concern. Once COVID-19 cases drop significantly, a well-prepared medical office is a safe environment to receive care. For example, precautions Westmed will take until widespread testing and/or a vaccine is available include:

  • Screening: We perform a temperature check and review health concerns before in-person exams.
  • Masking & PPE: All staff, and many patients, are equipped with masks and PPE for your protection.
  • Virtual Visits: Providers conduct video consultations before scheduling in-person exams.
  • Wait Times: Observing social distancing, patients are ushered directly into the treatment room with little wait time.”
