The details of Al Pirro’s public life — sometimes controversial, but never boring — have been well documented. But there’s more to Pirro than juicy headlines, according to the person who knows him best, his ex-wife, Jeanine Pirro. “I’ve known Al for 43 years, and I found him intriguing the first time I met him,” she says. “He has a huge intellect but is very self-deprecating, with a hysterical sense of humor. And he is one of the most generous people I have ever known.”

Al, owner and principal consultant for the Pirro Group, a White Plains legal and consulting firm, says he has an “internal fire” that pushes him “to work longer, play harder and meditate on my inner self.” He is devoted to his two children with Jeanine and plays both golf and guitar. (He calls Bob Dylan “probably the greatest poet of the present time” and once wrote a review of a Dylan concert.) He also understands the continued interest in him. “I suppose I have created curiosity,” he says. “My greatest successes were dealing with my failures.”

Jeanine Pirro says that “Al’s perseverance is unlike any I have seen in any human being, ever.” Ask Al about that, and you’ll get a favorite quote of his, from Zayn Malik of One Direction fame. “‘There comes a day when you realize turning the page is the best feeling in the world, because you realize there is so much more to the book than the page you were stuck on.’”

Al Pirro quoting One Direction? What’s that, if not intriguing?
