Driving to and from the airport is a drag, asking family and friends to take you gets old really quick, and car services can be pretty pricey. What’s a traveler to do? Larchmont resident Rob Anhouse has an answer. He recently launched Your Driver is Here (914-356-0393; yourdriverishere.com) as an alternative car service that offers lower rates by transporting Westchester customers in their own cars.
A round-trip fare from White Plains to JFK ranges from $156 to $184; $138 to $168 to LaGuardia; and $84 to Westchester Airport. Conventional local limo companies, by comparison, charge round-trip fares of about $280 to take a White Plains passenger to JFK; $260 to LaGuardia; and $140 to Westchester Airport. Savings with Your Driver is Here can amount to up to $100 or more—and, if you travel frequently, those savings really add up.
Here’s how it works: Fully bonded and background-checked drivers meet you at your home or another location, drive you and fellow travelers in your car, and return the vehicle to a specified location. They can either hold onto your keys for the return trip or give them to a designated friend or family member for safekeeping. “Families can pack up the night before, use their own car seats, and don’t have to pay an extra fee for a bigger car to hold their luggage,” Anhouse says.
In addition to airport runs, the service can be used for evenings out (you’ve got a built-in designated driver), rides for seniors or medically disabled people, and New York City excursions.
