The Alamo Drafthouse in Yonkers is set to reopen in July, joining other local theaters that are returning to operation after the COVID-19 shutdown. No specific date has been given for the Yonkers Gateway Center location.
Earlier this month, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced new COVID-19 safety guidelines, increasing the capacity of movie theaters to 33 percent from 25 percent.
Alamo Drafthouse’s Texas-based parent company said it is refining its approach to COVID-19 safety, with health and safety standards and procedures based on CDC guidelines, consultations with local health officials, and the feedback of its guests and team members.
“We have and will continue to modify those guidelines based on science and common sense,” the company said in a press release.
The theater will reopen with a smaller menu, “served in a way that minimizes exposure to the environment or other individuals.” For a contactless experience, patrons can order all food and drinks in advance, and purchase tickets through the Alamo Drafthouse’s website or mobile app.
The news of the scheduled reopening comes nearly two months after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Other local theaters have either opened or announced their impending returns to operation. The Picture House Regional Film Center in Pelham reopened on March 5.
The Jacob Burns Film Center, in Pleasantville, was scheduled to reopen on April 30, but was delayed when a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 two days earlier. JBFC’s reopening is now scheduled for May 12. The Bedford Playhouse plans to reopen on May 28.
The Alamo Drafthouse in Brooklyn is scheduled to reopen on May 7.
