Conveniently located on Main Street in Tarrytown, Flying Fingers Yarn Shop welcomes customers with an adorable sheep out front. The shop was founded by Elise Goldschlag, whose mother began teaching her fiber arts back in 1963. Goldschlag would knit sweaters, hats, and accessories for her kids, and then eventually she sold the items at craft fairs across New York City. Flying Fingers is a retail and classroom space that opened in 2003. The woman- and family-owned yarn shop offers yarn with natural fibers, including wool, cotton, silk, alpaca, cashmere, soy, and bamboo. If you’re new to yarn work, the store offers classes which run for six-week sessions for two hours once a week. The cost for each six-week session is $160, plus materials.

Altabef has been teaching classes in knitting and tatting for six years and writes modern, classic patterns. The store offers gorgeous yarn courtesy of independent companies that bring in fiber enthusiasts from Westchester, Hudson Valley, Rockland County, the five boroughs, and Southern Connecticut.
