The best players in women’s golf are making their way across the Hudson River to face off in a handful of tournaments this spring.

Like a rare planetary alignment, the best players in women’s golf will visit our area in four prestigious events over six weeks this spring. The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and The PGA of America (PGA) have scheduled four tournaments in New Jersey within a short drive from Westchester.

The first is the Cognizant Founders Cup to be played May 10-14 at Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, NJ. The event celebrates the 13 founding members of the LPGA Tour and typically features not only fabulous golf but visits from some of the legends of the game as well.

Next comes the Mizuho Americas Open, May 30-June 4 at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City. The new event will also mark the first time Liberty National, known as the venue for the Presidents Cup and other PGA Tour tournaments, will host the LPGA. LPGA Tour icon Michelle Wie West, who recently took a step back from professional competition, will serve as Tournament Host.

In a bonus for golf fans, 24 female junior golfers will compete in an AJGA Invitational alongside the 120-player LPGA Tour field at Liberty National. This unique format marks the first time that the AJGA and the LPGA have partnered to showcase the next generation of LPGA Tour players.

The ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer comes up the following week, June 5-11 at Seaview in Galloway Township. A Jersey shore tradition, Atlantic City’s largest annual sporting event will see 144 of the world’s best female professional golfers competing for a share of a $1.75 million purse.

Wrapping up the spectacular series, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will be played June 21-25 at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ, marking the first time for the club to host a women’s major since 1985 when the US Women’s Open was played on the Upper Course. The KMPG, one of five modern majors in the women’s game, will be held on the newly renovated Lower Course.

As the successor to the LPGA Championship, which began in 1955, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is the second-oldest major in women’s golf. This year it features a $9 million purse and a 156-player field that includes the top eight finishers from the previous year’s LPGA Professional National Championship, plus the winner of the PGA Women’s Stroke Play Championship.
