“Please welcome the Lady Champion Golfers of the Year,” was the opening statement of Westchester Country Club president Tom Pisano at the club’s celebration marking a record-setting season by the club’s women golfers. The 56 members of various ladies’ teams earned the accolade by claiming a remarkable number of titles in 2018.
Director of Golf Ben Hoffhine reports that the WCC ladies’ teams won the WMGA Team Matches, Ladies 18 Interclub, WIGL, and Ladies 9 WING this year. “In the history of the club, this has never happened,” he says. The triumph in the WMGA’s Interdistrict Team Matches was the first for WCC in 41 years.
Pisano pointed out that today’s women golfers “carried on the tradition of inclusiveness” at the club. He brandished a copy of the first WCC membership directory, published in 1929, that lists numerous women members who held equal status with men.
