The New York Liberty of the WNBA recently declared the Westchester County Center in White Plains their new home for 2018, and Liberty president/NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas couldn’t be happier. “MSG has had a very positive experience at the Westchester County Center and believes it is a venue where the Liberty can extend our fan base while maintaining our roots at the Garden,” Thomas says.
Liberty Head Coach and recent Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Katie Smith concurs, especially in terms of what it symbolizes to area youth: “I am excited to bring these talented ladies to the area and expose this beautiful game to young boys and girls, who will hopefully become fans.”
Smith and the Liberty’s 12-woman roster tipped-off their 2018 WNBA season on May 20, when they went on the road to play the Chicago Sky. The first of 15 Liberty home games at the County Center was on May 25, when they welcomed the Minnesota Lynx to town (liberty.wnba.com).
