The Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association recognizes contributions by women golfers dating back to the 19th century.

The Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association has unveiled its new E-Museum in time to celebrate Women’s History Month. Every day during March, the organization will recognize one of the many women from the metropolitan area who contributed to the growth of the game since the WMGA was founded in 1899.

Notable golfers induced so far include Beatrix Hoyt, winner of the US Women’s Amateur three times from 1896 to 1898, and one of the WMGA’s founding members. Also honored are Genevieve Hecker, author of the 1904 book Golf for Women and a member of The Apawamis Club in Rye; Mrs. DeWitt Cochrane, a club champion of Ardsley CC; and Myra Paterson, who belonged to Knollwood, Westchester CC, and Baltusrol and served as WMGA president for 10 years.

Each entry includes a photo of the golfer as well as a short description of her golf career, affiliations, and service to the WMGA. For more in-depth information about the golfers, the site provides links to contemporary newspaper and magazine articles and other period photos.

WMGA President Lori Ann Cerullo says the E-Museum was founded as part of the group’s build-up to its 125th anniversary in 2024.
