White Plains Makes Room for Co-Working Space

KOI Creative launches its first collaborative Westchester location

If you haven’t already heard, flexible co-working spaces are currently white-hot throughout the country. Popular firms like WeWork and The Fueled Collective have driven the trend on a national level, while locally, companies such as Serendipity Labs (Rye), and Ground Floor Coworking (New Rochelle), among others, have been leading the charge. The draw? These flex environments offer startups and freelancers a space they can rent and use as a hyper-collaborative office. And the latest Westchester player is KOI Creative Space, which opened its doors on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains earlier this month.

Founders and Westchester natives Ryan Doran and Jon Manierre wanted to tap into the county’s talent pool, and White Plains, they say, is increasingly a central location for regional entrepreneurs seeking a place to grow their businesses. Doran describes KOI as having been “made by creatives for creatives.”

The location’s open-floor plan evokes an urban feel and fosters interaction among professionals working alongside one another. KOI members have access to high-speed WiFi, individual desks, dozens of electrical outlets, a printer, and conference rooms. They also can tap into a mentor network with focused advisors whose expertise spans accounting, start-up services, business-plan writing, and loan sourcing, among others.

Doran and Manierre are optimistic that KOI distinguishes itself from similar co-working spaces in Westchester by hand-selecting those who actively contribute to the workspace, thus encouraging a one-of-a-kind culture.

“We want individuals who are going to be an asset,” says Doran. “That means we will constantly be improving the environment, the technology, and even curating idea-forward events. We also want to see dynamic cross-pollination from our members.”

KOI offers multiple tiers of membership, including full-time ($450/month), part-time ($250/month), and single day ($45/day), in addition to a 10-Day Anytime Package ($350), which is useful for sampling the space. For a limited time, they are offering a 10% off discount to all multi-month memberships. They’re also offering daily open tours to prospective members throughout August.
