White Plains Hospital recently unveiled five brand-new, state-of-the-art operating rooms, affirming to the public that it is a regional leader in the field of surgery.
White Plains Hospital has been one of the first in Westchester County to offer robotic surgery. The first new operating room was completed in 2013 and was designed for the latest da Vinci® surgical system, including robotic procedures and minimally invasive surgeries.
The other four operating rooms are made to support the most advanced surgical procedures. These rooms will enhance safety, efficiency, and patient comfort.
Features of the new ORs include:
• CLARITY– a video enhancement device that uses military-grade technology to help surgeons see through murky fluid and smoke.
• The latest in anesthesia equipment to ensure safety and comfort for all surgical patients.
• Specially designed floors made with no seams or cracks; this will increase cleanliness and minimize risk for infections.
• High-efficiency booms, so that equipment doesn’t have to be wheeled in and out of operating rooms, increasing efficiency and decreasing damage.
• ENV (Endoscopic Near Infrared Visualization) to enhance the visualization of anatomy in real time during procedures.
• The latest robotic equipment The da Vinci® robotic surgical system allows surgeons to perform more complex surgery.
• State-of-the-art-ceilings and lights now have laser-guided surgical LED lights that diminish shadowing.
• Rooms that accommodate the latest technology These rooms range from approximately 650 to 700 square feet, creating floor space to support the latest robotic equipment.
• Central sterile area to ensure that all instruments and implants are fully sterilized for the operating rooms.
•An advanced surgical video system The 1588 AIM Platform by Stryker is an integrated video system that allows nurses to control equipment remotely and surgeons to control the equipment at the field of surgery.
• IRIS (Infrared Illuminated System) This visualization technology is designed to reduce risk of damage during surgery.
“White Plains Hospital is the first hospital in the tri-state area to obtain the latest generation of minimally invasive technology with these operating rooms,” says White Plains Hospital Director of Surgery Kaare Weber, MD. “Everything about the new operating rooms, from floor to ceiling, has been extremely well thought out and deliberately planned.”
Aside from the operating-room transformations, White Plains Hospital has experienced a campus-wide makeover, including a new, six-story patient tower with a brand-new lobby and entranceway, 24 private patient rooms, and a new labor and delivery wing. It also has expanded its cancer center and added a second cardiac catheterization laboratory.
