Where To Shop and Dine in Westchester

Fun, food, and flare in Westchester.

For shopping, dining and entertainment rivaling the best that New York City can offer, Westchester has plenty of options to make your days – and especially nights – an adventure to remember.

Major retail chains such as Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom are found all over the county, while vibrant downtowns invite shoppers to explore unique shops. For instance, Pound Ridge has acclaimed collectibles boutiques, Mount Kisco has stylish shops along East Main Street and South Moger Avenue, and Tarrytown offers a nice collection of antiques shops in its downtown area.

For the ultimate shopping convenience, White Plains’ upscale, sky‑lit mall, The Westchester, has marble floors, bronze sculptures and more than 150 stores. In Yonkers, there’s the new‑look Cross County Shopping Center. Found right along the Cross County Parkway, the shopping center offers an eclectic mix of major retailers, such as Macy’s and Sears, and specialty stores, such as Victoria’s Secret & Pink, American Eagle Outfitters and Swarovski.

Westchester’s Ridge Hill is a luxurious shopping/dining/entertainment destination that offers not only top‑quality shopping but community events, a farmer’s market, dining and the LEGOLAND Discovery Center. Ridge Hill also has the Showcase Cinema de Lux.

Westchester gives new meaning to the phrase “restaurant row,” since it is home to some 2,000 restaurants, at least a quarter of which have been rated by Zagat. Needless to say, cuisine choices are varied and include just about every ethnicity. Check out local favorites such as Sam’s of Gedney Way in White Plains, which has been a gathering place since 1932, or the Il Sogno Ristorante in Port Chester, one of the many excellent ethnic restaurants found in towns like Port Chester, Peekskill and Mount Kisco.

For fine dining with an even finer view, restaurants along the Hudson River are perfectly positioned. Lake views are also impressive: The next time you crave Portuguese and Brazilian fare, consider the Aquario Restaurant on Silver Lake in West Harrison. Meanwhile, White Plains serves everything from Argentinian paella at the Gaucho Grill to chef‑selected, dry‑aged meats at the Benjamin Steak House.

If you’re up for a bit of the pub scene, there are places such as Emma’s Ale House and the Wicked Wolf Tavern. Meanwhile, Don Coqui in New Rochelle and White Plains blends Puerto Rican cuisine with a chic lounge.

Concert halls and performing arts centers are also found throughout the county. Whether comedy, drama or symphonic sounds interest you, the talented artists of Westchester provide a moving experience.
