Where to Get Your Westchester French-Fry Fix

It turns out that those crisp, golden delights that complement your burger or sandwich to a T are so beloved that they deserve their own holiday. It just so happens that today, July 13, is that occasion: National French Fry Day. Now don’t lie: Your mouths probably started watering once you read that, and lucky for us the county has more than enough of that salted, starchy goodness to fill all your cravings. Behold:

BLT Steak
While this White Plains favorite’s traditional version is great, it’s their special Parmesan variety that really stands out. They start with a French fry’s best friend, sea salt, and some grated Parmigiano-Reggiano, along with additional flavorings, and serve the end result in their special butcher-paper cones. These are really something else.

Walter’s Hot Dogs

Looking for more of a grab-and-go basket? Then Walter’s Hot Dogs is the place to go. While this stand is well known for their namesake franks, their fries’ unfussy, crisp flavor makes them stand out. There’s even an entire section on the menu dedicated sweet potato waffle fries, standard cut French fries, lightly seasoned curly fries, and potato puffs, which are mashed potato bites with a buttery and crispy outer shell. And to top it all off, they even have fries in the dessert section, thanks to their sugary, doughy, and oh-so addictive funnel cake fries. The line is usually backed up, so expect to be waiting anywhere from 20-30 minutes.

Elevation Burger

They might be a chain, but there’s no denying Elevation’s fries, which are crafted using a lever-operated cutter, which slices the potato into perfect wands. Once cut, they’re dipped into fryers that only contain olive oil, which means you won’t feel too bad about eating an entire batch of them by yourself. You can chow down on an order of these at their locations in Yonkers and Port Chester.

The Blazer Pub

These aren’t your standard, thinly sliced side dish. Blazer’s fries, all cut from Idaho potatoes, are thick and filling, and can be ordered separately in a small, medium, or large size, or are served on the side with the restaurant’s award-winning burgers.

Bridge View Tavern

At Bridge View Tavern in Sleepy Hollow, they’re amping up the average order with their Disco is Dead fries, topped with chili, cheese, and housemade wild-boar chorizo. If that’s not out-there enough, you’ll also find these bad boys topped with a creamy cheese sauce, applewood-smoked bacon, and pickled jalapenos, so come prepared with a heavy appetite.

Le Jardin Du Roi

It’s a common joke to suggest you can’t go wrong with fries at a French restaurant, but Le Jardin du Roi makes that a reality. By frying day-old bread, all, if not most, of the oil is absorbed, and several dipping sauces like house-made mayonnaise complement them quite nicely.

The Barley House

These fries are hand-cut and cooked just enough so they’re not too soft or too crunchy. Like Walter’s, The Barley house offers a variety options, including the standard hand-cut fries, sweet potato fries, and waffle fries. The restaurant even has an appetizer that comes with all three types, plus onion rings and some dipping sauces to pizzazz. Bonus: Barley House stays open until 3 am daily for those late-night snackers.
