Where to Get Mid-Autumn Mooncakes in Westchester and Beyond

The annual Chinese celebration is symbolized by this delectable, expressionist pastry

Today marks this year’s Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, which occurs every year when the moon is biggest, fullest, and brightest, symbolizing familial prosperity and togetherness. Perhaps the most renowned representation of this annual celebration is the mooncake, believed to be an ancient offering that dates back to the 13th century. Typically filled with a sweet, dense bean paste or fruit mix, the pastry topped with intricate designs and Chinese characters.

Here, we tell you where you can find them over these next few days both locally and throughout the Hudson Valley (while the fest is officially today, many celebrants will treat it as an extended holiday weekend, a la our Thanksgiving), whether you formally acknowledge the lunar occasion or want to feel connected to its spirit of love and unity.
