When It Comes To Workouts, Are You A “Weekend Warrior”? There’s A Very Good Reason You Shouldn’t Be

Being a “weekend warrior,” someone who works out exclusively on weekends, can be dangerous. According to Susie Reiner, fitness manager at Club Fit in Briarcliff, high-intensity weekend workouts can have negative effects on your cardiovascular system and joints if you are sedentary during the week.

Reiner recommends short workouts during the week to keep energy levels high: “Spend those short increments walking or running, performing a series of calisthenics or yoga poses.” This way you’ll avoid injury during high-intensity weekend exercise. For weekend workouts, Reiner recommends increasing the intensity periodically to challenge yourself. “Your body is capable of amazing feats—if you train it correctly.”
